PhD student Yan Shaohua (嚴少華) from the European Studies Programme of HKU participated in the Asia-Pacific EU Centres Graduate Students Workshop from 4-6 February 2013 in Fukuoka, Japan. Organized by the EU Institute in Japan, Kyushu (EUIJ Kyushu), the workshop brought together 30 graduate students specialized in European Studies from universities in 8 countries to discuss the theme, “Achievements, Lessons and Challenges of the EU.” It provided the participants with a platform to share their understanding of European affairs with fellow students who have the same interest albeit with a different focus or from different perspectives. This conference also invited distinguished professors in European Studies to give comments and feedback to students’ research papers, which was a great opportunity for students to learn from established figures in the field. All in all, this workshop was a perfect example showing the benefits of cross-border discussions and provided an opportunity to foster new relationships in the Asia-Pacific region. |
